Entry and Exit Update and Exit Update
Our first week was a success! Students are learning to leave spaces when they line up, follow directional arrows in the hallway, practice good hand hygiene and how and when to use hand sanitizer. We are taking our learning outdoors whenever possible and embracing that we need to do things differently. We are so proud of how students are wearing masks properly and remaining with their cohort at lunch and recess.

For some families, the decision to return to school was a difficult one, and we have reassured many worried parents that we are strictly following all of the back to school guidelines outlined by the Ministry of Health. Extensive planning has gone into handwashing and washroom schedules, staggered entries and exits, field markings and restricting student interactions to cohorts. These are all measures to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19, keep our kids at school and try our best to avoid an outbreak. Learning this year will require teachers to balance curriculum, new safety measures and well-being. We are up for the challenge.

We need your support. If you choose to drop off or pick up your child, we are asking that you follow the same guidelines and model what we are asking of our children. Please avoid congregating at the back gate. We understand the importance of saying goodbye in the morning or meeting your child at the end of the day. It is even a requirement that a parent or guardian meets our youngest learners, however, it is only by working together that are we will be able to teach students about the new expectations at school. It is also important that we are respectful of the health risks of others in our community. In response to what we have been observing at the gate and to the requests from at risk family members in our school community we have posted signs and painted markers to help parents maintain physical distance on our sidewalk. Please stand at one of the lines and only approach the circle at the gate when your child is going through the gate.

I know that these guidelines are an inconvenience. Unfortunately, health and safety needs to be a priority for us.

Thank you for your cooperation.
