Closures and cancellations due to COVID-19

03/12/2020
On May 19, the Premier’s Office announced that all publicly funded schools in Ontario will remain closed for the duration of the 2019-2020 school year, in response to COVID-19. As such, Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools and adult learning centres will not reopen on May 31, 2020. The decision to extend the school closure period for the remainder of the school year is based on advice from Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health in order to protect the health and safety of students, families and staff.

The following programs/meetings will not run or are closed:
 • Permits (Community Use of Schools)
 • All EarlyON and Child Care Centres
 • Adult and continuing education
 • Dual Credit and Cooperative education programs
In addition, the Education Centre and the Career Centre are closed to the public.

As the School Year Draws to an Endhttp://byr.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/111As the School Year Draws to an End

Dear Boyne River Community,

I cannot believe the 2019/20 school year is drawing to a close. Although we have faced many challenges this past year, I am so proud of the way our school community and staff have embraced these changes and have supported one other during this time. Mr. Cappadocia and I have been privileged to participate in several Google Meets and celebrate the engagement and collaboration of students during distance learning. I have watched chicks being hatched, had backyard picnics, participated in ‘Kahoot’ games and class sharing sessions.

Even throughout this time apart, Boyne River staff and students have found creative ways to connect and demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways. As we look towards a new school year this September I would like to extend our best wishes to Ms. Neufeld, Ms. Morrow, Ms. Briscoe and Ms. Phillips who have accepted new teaching positions at other schools this fall. We also wish Ms. Noel all the best as she takes a Leave of Absence for next year. Our congratulations goes to Ms. Ross who will be on maternity leave next year. I would also like to thank Ms. Flynn and Ms. Hogarth for all of their hard work teaching our students and wish them well in the coming year.

We are saddened to say farewell to Mr. Cappadocia this fall as he has been transferred to Goodfellow P.S in Innisfill. ‘Mr. Capp,’ as he has been known by our staff and students, has literally helped build the Boyne River community from the ground up. His friendly “Good Mornings” at the Kiss n’ Ride and daily smiles will be missed by everyone. We would like to welcome Stephanie Jacklin back to Boyne River as Principal. Ms. Jacklin is a familiar member to our community after working alongside Mr. Cappadocia for two years. We welcome her return and look forward to her leadership as we move forward together.

Thank you to our School Council, parents, staff and community who have been so supportive and involved during our school year. All of you are integral to the valuable learning experiences that make Boyne River a great place to be. Best wishes to everyone for a safe and happy summer.

Lynne Stewart- Vice Principal

Student Belongings Pick -Uphttp://byr.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/110Student Belongings Pick -Up
We hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. At this time, we are moving forward with allowing our students to retrieve items from their desks and hooks. We will be starting this process on Wednesday, June 3rd by using a drive-thru method to return personal items of your child(ren). Our top priority throughout this process is student safety and for this reason student and parent cooperation while at the school is critical. We have 630 students who will be visiting the school over a few days. I want to assure you that our public health unit has guided our plan. At all times throughout this process, please remain in your vehicles and our Teacher/EA/Administrator supervisors will hand over your child(ren)'s bag through the back window of your vehicle. To this point, please read our plan below very carefully with your student(s):

Teachers have assigned you a time and zone pick-up zone. You will enter the (bus loopin dark blue / kiss and ride in red)*

We ask that you remain in your vehicle and the passenger window open (the back preferably). We want to minimize congestion so please arrive on time (not early or late) and drive slowly and safely to your designated pick-up spot.

There will be staff supervising the drive-thrus to ensure safety.

Please return any textbooks and library books by putting them in a plastic bag with your child(ren)'s name on it and hand it over to a supervisor.

We plan on having shoes and items from the class that teachers' don't know who they belong to on a table for you to identify from your vehicle.

We will also have a lost and found table that will display items left on the yard and the hallways on a table. Area is in light blue on the map.

Once again, we want to assure you that our top priority is to execute this plan in the safest way possible. It is up to all of us, students, parents/guardians and staff, to make sure this happens safely. I know that you and your child(ren) have been waiting for this opportunity and I want to thank you for your patience. This type of plan in these circumstances takes a great deal of planning and organizing. Thank you to our staff for coming in this week to make this happen. We are looking forward to seeing our students at the school this week.

Mr. Cappadocia Transferred To Goodfellow P.S.http://byr.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/109Mr. Cappadocia Transferred To Goodfellow P.S.
<span style="color:#595959;font-family:"arial",sans-serif;">It is with sadness that I am announcing my transfer from Boyne River P.S. I embarked on the journey of overseeing the construction of Boyne River P.S. starting back in January 2016. It was a place that I enjoyed coming to work and interacting with the wonderful staff and students every chance I had. The staff’s kindness and passion for students and the support from families are the reasons that Boyne River will always be a special place for me. Thank you for always caring.

<span style="color:#595959;font-family:"arial",sans-serif;">It was life opportunity to build Boyne River alongside with so many staff that I will be leaving behind. It was a tough day getting the news this week as this school is extremely special to me. I am off to Goodfellow P.S. where I will be able to undertake new challenges and put my heart and soul into that school community. Boyne River will indeed have a huge presence there and will remain a special place in my heart.

<span style="color:#595959;font-family:"arial",sans-serif;">Ms. Jacklin returns to the school where she put a lot of work into as well. Boyne River is being left in good hands with Ms. Jacklin and Ms. Stewart’s leadership.

<span style="color:#595959;font-family:"arial",sans-serif;">Thank you so much for everything Boyne River. Students… you’ve made me laugh and smile. Staff… you’ve inspired me and you made me a better leader. I am forever grateful.
